Every Child A Reader

Every Child a Reader (ECAR) is a 501(c)(3) literacy organization dedicated to instilling a lifelong love of reading in children.

Our Mission
To create and support programs and opportunities that make the reading and enjoyment of children’s books an essential part of America’s educational and social aims, and to enhance public perception of the importance of reading. Founded by the Board of Directors of the Children’s Book Council (CBC), Every Child A Reader is unique among literacy organizations in its ability to harness the collective power of the children’s book publishing industry.

Our Programs
ECAR administers Children's Book Week, the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country. In conjunction with The Center for the Book in the Library of Congress and the CBC, ECAR sponsors the National Ambassador for Young People's Literature program, which raises national awareness of the importance of young people’s literature as it relates to lifelong literacy, education and the development and betterment of the lives of young people.
